17 BEST Amalfi Coast Boat Tours (by an Italian)

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most breathtaking destinations, with dramatic cliffs, colorful villages, and the Mediterranean sparkling below them.

I grew up in Bologna, but somehow I didn’t make it to the Amalfi Coast until my late 20s. When I finally did, I understood the hype pretty quickly. The coast is beautiful from land, but from the water? That’s when it really shows off.

Taking an Amalfi Coast boat tour lets you see Positano, Amalfi, sea caves, hidden coves, and swimming spots without dealing with traffic on the coastal road. It’s also the easiest way to enjoy those cliffside views without fighting for a window seat on a bus.

Most boat tours depart from Amalfi, Positano, Praiano, Sorrento, Salerno, or Naples. The best option depends on where you’re staying, how much time you have, and whether you want a shared cruise, a private boat, a sunset trip, or a full-day experience with stops in town.

Image of Marina dei Conchi, with rocky cliffs over the blue sea

To help you choose quickly, I’ve rounded up the best Amalfi Coast boat tours, from short snorkeling cruises to private boat trips and full-day tours from Sorrento, Naples, and Salerno.

Why trust me? I’m Italian, from Bologna, and I’ve spent the last 10+ years helping travelers plan trips to Italy. I’ve visited the Amalfi Coast several times, and I know how much the right departure point can make or break your day.

I usually book tours through Viator and GetYourGuide because they offer reliable operators and flexible cancellation policies. Most tours can be canceled up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

OUR PICK: The Best Amalfi Coast Boat Tour

Duration: 4 to 8 hours
Type: Shared boat tour
Best for: Travelers who want the best all-around Amalfi Coast boat experience

This Amalfi Coast & Positano Boat Tour with Snorkeling & Drinks is my top pick because it works for the widest range of travelers. You can choose departures from Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, or Salerno, which is rare for an Amalfi Coast boat tour.

The half-day options focus on the stretch between Amalfi and Positano. You’ll cruise below the cliffs, pass villages like Conca dei Marini and Praiano, see the Fiordo di Furore from the water, and stop to swim or snorkel in clear coves.

The full-day options from Sorrento or Salerno add free time in both Amalfi and Positano. That makes them better if you’re not staying directly on the coast and want a mix of boat time, swimming, and town visits.

On board, you’ll have snorkeling gear, floating devices, a shaded canopy, a restroom, shower, fresh fruit, prosecco, limoncello, beer, soft drinks, and water. Just check the exact departure point and duration when booking, because the route changes depending on the option you select.

Why this is the best tour

This is the most flexible option in the list. It gives you the classic Amalfi Coast boat experience, with swimming, snorkeling, coastal views, drinks, and a proper onboard setup, but it also lets you choose the departure point that fits your trip.

Read what the reviews say:

“We learned a lot about the coast line and got two swimming breaks, drinks and fresh fruit snacks.”

Best Private Amalfi Coast Boat Tour

Duration: 6 hours
Type: Private boat tour
Best for: Couples, families, or groups who want a flexible day on the water

This Private Amalfi Coast Boat Trip is the best choice if you want the coast to feel like yours for the day. You can depart from Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Minori, or Maiori, which makes it easy to fit into most Amalfi Coast stays.

The route is flexible. Your skipper can take you past sea cliffs, beaches, coves, and seaside villages, and you can stop to swim or go ashore when you want. That flexibility is the whole point here.

You also get to choose the boat style, from a traditional wooden boat to a speedboat or yacht, depending on the option you book. That makes it a great pick for a honeymoon, family trip, or splurge day with friends.

Lunch is not included, but the skipper can suggest restaurants that are reachable by boat. The Emerald Grotto entrance fee is also extra if you decide to visit.

Pros

  • Private tour only for your group
  • Multiple departure points along the Amalfi Coast
  • Flexible route with swim stops and village stops
  • Choice of different boat types

Cons

  • More expensive than shared boat tours
  • Lunch and Emerald Grotto entry are not included
  • Snacks are not included on the Open Deck Boat option

This tour includes a private boat trip, local skipper, bottled water, soft drinks, beer, prosecco, towels, fuel, port fees, and snorkel masks. ➥ BOOK IT HERE

Best Amalfi Coast Sunset Boat Tour

Duration: 2 to 3 hours
Type: Sunset boat tour
Best for: Couples and travelers who want a relaxed evening on the water

This Amalfi Coast Sunset Boat Tour with Aperitif and Prosecco is the one to book if you want something slower and more romantic than a full-day cruise.

The tour runs around golden hour, with sightseeing along the Amalfi Coast, photo stops, and time to relax on the boat’s sundeck. Depending on conditions, there may also be time for a swim or snorkel stop.

On board, you’ll have music, towels, fresh fruit, snacks, and prosecco. It’s not the tour for ticking off every town, but it’s a lovely option for a special evening or an easier boat experience.

This one is not ideal if you’re prone to seasickness, and the exact pickup/meeting point depends on the option you choose.

Pros

  • Shorter and easier than a full-day boat tour
  • Great for couples or special occasions
  • Includes prosecco, snacks, fresh fruit, and towels

Cons

  • Less sightseeing than a full-day tour
  • Not suitable for travelers prone to seasickness
  • Pickup details vary by selected option

This tour includes a boat ride, skipper, guide, fuel, music, towels, prosecco, fresh fruit, and snacks. ➥ BOOK IT HERE

Best Amalfi Coast Boat Tours from Positano and Praiano

Full-Day Boat Tour from Positano or Praiano

Duration: 7 hours
Type: Shared boat tour
Best for: Travelers staying in Positano or Praiano who want a full coastal day

This Full-Day Boat Tour to the Amalfi Coast from Praiano or Positano is a strong option if you want a longer shared cruise from the central Amalfi Coast.

You’ll sail past Praiano, Fiordo di Furore, and Conca dei Marini, with the option to visit the Emerald Grotto if the weather and group timing allow. The grotto entrance is not included, so treat it as a possible extra, not a guaranteed stop.

The main land stop is Amalfi, where you’ll have around 2.5 hours of free time. That’s enough to see the cathedral area, wander the historic center, grab lunch, or get a lemon treat before heading back to the boat.

The tour also includes two swim stops and an aperitif on the way back, with prosecco, homemade limoncello, drinks, snacks, towels, diving masks, and floating noodles.

Pros

  • Good full-day option from Positano or Praiano
  • Includes free time in Amalfi
  • Two swimming stops included
  • Includes drinks, snacks, towels, and masks

Cons

  • Emerald Grotto is optional and costs extra
  • Food is not included
  • Not suitable for wheelchair users

Half-Day Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Positano

Duration: 4 hours
Type: Shared boat tour
Best for: Travelers who want a shorter boat trip from Positano

This Half-Day Amalfi Coast Boat Tour & Snorkeling is ideal if you’re staying in Positano and don’t want to commit to a full day on the water.

You’ll board at Positano Pier and sail toward Praiano, passing Gavitella Bay and Marina di Praia before reaching the Fiordo di Furore. The route continues through Conca dei Marini and toward Amalfi and Atrani.

The focus here is the coastline itself, not free time in towns. You’ll stop to swim and snorkel, then relax on board with complimentary cold drinks and fruit.

This is a better choice than a full-day tour if you want a lighter plan, have dinner reservations, or just don’t want to spend the whole day in the sun.

Pros

  • Great short option from Positano
  • Includes Fiordo di Furore and Conca dei Marini
  • Swimming and snorkeling included
  • Good if you don’t want a full-day tour

Cons

  • No free time in Amalfi or Positano
  • Less time on the water than full-day tours
  • Only works well if you’re already in Positano

This tour includes a half-day boat trip from Positano, driver, swim and snorkel stop, cold drinks, and fruit. ➥ BOOK IT HERE

If you’re staying in Sorrento and still deciding between boat trips and land-based day tours, I also have a full guide to the best Amalfi Coast tours from Sorrento.

Positano and Amalfi Boat Trip with Transfer from Sorrento

Duration: 8 hours
Type: Boat tour with transfer
Best for: Travelers staying in Sorrento who want an easy full-day boat tour

This Positano and Amalfi Boat Trip with Transfer from Sorrento is the best shared boat tour if you’re based in Sorrento. It includes pickup from Sorrento or Vico Equense, so you don’t have to figure out how to reach the marina yourself.

After the transfer, you’ll board the boat and cruise along the coastline. The route usually passes Punta Campanella, the Li Galli islands, Praiano, Fiordo di Furore, and Conca dei Marini before reaching Amalfi.

You’ll get about 1.5 hours of free time in Amalfi and another 1.5 hours in Positano. That’s enough for a walk through town, photos, a quick lunch, or a cathedral stop in Amalfi if timing works.

The tour also includes swimming stops, prosecco, soft drinks, snacks, water, and limoncello. The main caveat is the extra €10 landing and facility fee, plus snorkeling gear and towels are available for an extra fee.

Pros

  • Best shared boat tour from Sorrento
  • Pickup and drop-off included
  • Free time in both Amalfi and Positano
  • Includes swim stops, drinks, snacks, and limoncello

Private Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Sorrento

Duration: 8 hours
Type: Private boat tour
Best for: Travelers staying in Sorrento who want a private boat day

This Private Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Sorrento is the upgrade option if you want to visit the coast by boat without sharing the experience with a larger group.

The route usually starts from the Sorrento area and heads toward the Amalfi Coast, with views of the Sorrento coastline before continuing toward Positano and Amalfi. You’ll have time on land in both towns, plus stops for swimming and snorkeling.

This is a good fit for families, couples, or groups who want more privacy and a slower pace. You won’t have to follow the rhythm of a shared group, which can make a big difference in summer.

Lunch and some optional stops are not included, so it’s best for travelers who are comfortable paying extra for a restaurant stop or tailoring the day as they go.

Pros

  • Private boat tour from the Sorrento area
  • Good for families, couples, or small groups
  • Includes time in Positano and Amalfi
  • More relaxed than a shared tour

Cons

  • More expensive than shared Sorrento tours

Best Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Naples

If you’re based in Naples and want to compare boat tours with classic land-based day trips, I also have a full guide to the best Amalfi Coast tours from Naples.

Duration: 10 to 11 hours
Type: Boat tour with transfer and light lunch
Best for: Travelers staying in Naples who want a boat-focused Amalfi Coast day trip

This Small Group Amalfi Coast Boat Tour with Light Lunch is the best option if you’re staying in Naples but still want the day to feel like a boat trip, not just a road tour with a quick ferry ride.

The day starts with pickup at Starhotels Terminus near Piazza Garibaldi, followed by a transfer to Piano di Sorrento. From there, you’ll board the boat and cruise toward the Amalfi Coast.

Along the way, the boat passes places like Bagni Regina Giovanna, Cala di Mitigliano, Li Galli, Nerano, Praiano, and Fiordo di Furore before reaching Amalfi. You’ll be able to swim and possibly snorkel in one of these stops. Then, you’ll have around 2 hours of free time in Amalfi and 1 hour in Positano.

A light lunch, snacks, and drinks are included. Just note that this tour is not suitable for cruise passengers, because the return to Naples is scheduled around 7:30 or 8 PM.

Pros

  • Best boat-focused Amalfi Coast tour from Naples
  • Free time in Amalfi and Positano
  • Light lunch and drinks included

Cons

  • Long day from Naples
  • Not suitable for cruise ship passengers
  • Snorkeling equipment and destination fee cost extra

This tour includes roundtrip transfer from Naples to Piano di Sorrento, boat trip, professional English-speaking skipper, snacks, light lunch, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. ➥ BOOK IT HERE

Best Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Salerno

Duration: 7 hours
Type: Small-group sailboat trip
Best for: Travelers staying in Salerno who want a smaller, relaxed boat day with lunch

This Amalfi Coast Sailboat Trip with Lunch from Salerno is the best pick from Salerno because it feels more intimate than many large coastal cruises. The group is limited to 8 participants, and the tour includes hotel pickup in Salerno.

You’ll sail past Vietri, Cetara, Erchie, Maiori, and Minori while your hostess shares stories and local details. There are stops in coves and quiet stretches of water where you can swim and snorkel.

The main land stop is Amalfi, where you’ll get free time to explore before heading back to the boat. On board, you’ll have fresh fruit and prosecco, then a pasta lunch with local ingredients, dessert and limoncello.

This is a great choice if you’re using Salerno as a base and want something more relaxed than a long bus or ferry day. It’s not suitable for people with mobility issues, certain medical conditions, or babies under 1 year.

Pros

  • Small group limited to 8 people
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Salerno included
  • Includes swim stops and free time in Amalfi
  • Lunch, dessert, limoncello, and beach towel included

Cons

  • Only convenient if you’re staying in Salerno

  • Not suitable for babies under 1 year

How to Choose the Best Amalfi Coast Boat Tour

Choose by departure point

Start with where you’re staying. If you’re in Amalfi, Positano, or Praiano, book a tour that leaves directly from the coast. If you’re in Sorrento, Naples, or Salerno, choose a tour that includes transfers or departs from your base.

This matters a lot on the Amalfi Coast. Roads are slow, traffic can be intense, and getting to a different marina can take longer than you expect.

Choose between shared and private boat tours

Shared tours are the best value and work well if you’re happy with a set route. They’re usually perfect for first-time visitors who want views, swim stops, and some time in Amalfi or Positano.

Private boat tours cost more, but they give you more flexibility. They’re better for honeymoons, families, friend groups, or anyone who wants a slower pace and fewer people around.

Choose between swimming-focused and town-focused tours

Some Amalfi Coast boat tours are mostly about swimming, snorkeling, caves, and views from the water. Others include longer stops in towns like Amalfi and Positano.

If you’ve already visited the towns, I’d choose a swimming-focused boat tour. If it’s your first time on the coast, a full-day tour with free time in Amalfi and Positano can give you a better overview.

Are Amalfi Coast Boat Tours Worth It?

In my opinion, yes. The Amalfi Coast is one of those places that looks completely different from the water. You get the full view of the cliffs, villages, arches, coves, and tiny beaches that you simply don’t see the same way from the road.

A boat tour also makes the day feel more relaxed. You avoid the worst of the coastal traffic, get swimming stops, and can see several places without constantly changing buses or ferries.

The only time I’d skip it is if the sea is rough, you’re very prone to seasickness, or you prefer spending most of your time inside the towns. Otherwise, a boat tour is one of the best things you can do on the Amalfi Coast.

FAQ: Amalfi Coast Boat Tours

What is the best Amalfi Coast boat tour?

The best overall option is the Amalfi Coast & Positano Boat Tour with Snorkeling & Drinks. It has multiple departure points, swimming and snorkeling stops, drinks, fresh fruit, and both half-day and full-day options.

Where do Amalfi Coast boat tours depart from?

Most Amalfi Coast boat tours depart from Amalfi, Positano, Praiano, Sorrento, Salerno, or Naples. The best departure point depends on where you’re staying. If possible, choose a tour that leaves from your base or includes transfers.

Is it better to take a boat tour from Positano or Amalfi?

Both are good. Positano is great if you’re staying on the western side of the coast or want a shorter boat tour. Amalfi is better if you’re staying closer to the center of the coast or want easier access to routes toward Conca dei Marini, Furore, and Praiano.

Can you take an Amalfi Coast boat tour from Sorrento?

Yes, and Sorrento is one of the most popular bases for Amalfi Coast boat tours. Many tours include pickup, a boat ride along the coast, free time in Positano and Amalfi, swim stops, and drinks on board.

Can you take an Amalfi Coast boat tour from Rome?

Yes, but I wouldn’t choose a standard Amalfi Coast boat tour if you’re staying in Rome. Most Rome options are long day trips that include train or road transport, time in Positano or Amalfi, and a scenic boat ride. If that’s your plan, check my guide to the best Amalfi Coast tours from Rome instead.

What should you bring on an Amalfi Coast boat tour?

Bring swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a towel if your tour does not include one. I also recommend a light cover-up, a waterproof phone pouch, and motion sickness tablets if you’re sensitive to boat movement.

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most breathtaking destinations, with dramatic cliffs, colorful villages, and the sparkling Mediterranean stretching as far as the eye can see.

I grew up in Bologna, yet somehow, I didn’t make it to the Amalfi Coast until my late 20s. But when I finally did, I instantly understood why everyone is so obsessed with it! Since then, I’ve made it a point to explore as much as possible to bring you the best recommendations for this incredible region.

And in my opinion, there’s no better way to experience the Amalfi Coast than from the water. A boat tour lets you soak in the views, visit hidden caves and beaches, and make stops in some of the coast’s most charming towns—all without the hassle of winding coastal roads or crowded buses.

Most boat tours depart from Sorrento, Positano, or Amalfi, but you can also find great options from Naples, Salerno, and even Rome for a day trip.

Image of Marina dei Conchi, with rocky cliffs over the blue sea

Positano and Amalfi are the two must-visit stops on most tours: Positano is a picture-perfect cliffside town famous for its pastel buildings and chic boutiques, while Amalfi boasts a stunning 9th-century cathedral.

In this article, I’ve rounded up the best Amalfi Coast boat tours—whether you prefer a traditional wooden boat or a luxury yacht—organized by departure point and whether they’re shared or private experiences.

➥ Why should you trust me? I’ve been running this website for 10 years, traveling full-time for the last seven, and let’s just say I’ve gotten pretty good at picking out the best tours—especially in Italy, my home country. If it’s on this list, it’s because it’s truly worth your time!

I use and trust Get Your Guide and Viator to book tours when I travel. I especially recommend them because of their fantastic cancellation policy. If your travel plans change, you can cancel most activities up to 24 hours in advance and get a full refund.

Hi

I have a group of 50 passengers arriving on the Norwegian Viva at 7:00am on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at the port of Stazione Marittima di Salerno at Molo Manfred.  We want to book an 8-hour excursion for 50, if that's not possible, 40 on a boat tour to Vietri sul Mare & Cetara, Maiori & Minori, Amalfi Town, plus anything else you may recommend in 8 hours.  We are a plus 50 in age.  We would like to bring champagne or liquor on board, maybe some swimming.  The excursion would be from 7:30am to 3:30pm, 8 hours.

Give me the cheapest boat price and a nice one. Thanks David
