The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most breathtaking destinations, with colorful cliffside villages, dramatic coastal roads, and postcard-perfect views. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the most sought-after spots in Southern Italy—and honestly, I totally get the hype.
Even though I grew up in Bologna, just a few hours north, it took me many years to finally visit. And now? I always recommend spending at least 2-3 nights here to soak it all in.
But I also know that not everyone has that kind of time—and if you’re in Rome with only a day to spare, a guided tour is the best way to do it.
If you ask me, I don’t recommend trying to visit the Amalfi Coast on your own as a day trip from Rome—the logistics are a nightmare, and you’ll spend more time on trains and buses than actually enjoying the scenery. Instead, let someone else handle the planning while you sit back and enjoy the views.

In this guide, I’ve handpicked the best Amalfi Coast tours from Rome, including options that visit Pompeii and the most scenic coastal towns.
➥ Why should you trust my suggestions? I was born and raised in Bologna, and I’ve traveled the Amalfi Coast multiple times. Plus, with over a decade of experience helping people plan their trips to Italy, I know what makes a tour worth your time and money. If it’s on this list, it’s because I truly believe it’s one of the best experiences out there.
I use Viator and Get Your Guide to book tours around the world, and I especially recommend them because of their cancellation policy. Both platforms allow you to cancel most activities up to 24 hours in advance and receive a full refund.

OUR PICK: The BEST Amalfi Coast Day Trip from Rome
The Boat-Hopping On The Amalfi Coast: Day Trip from Rome is our chosen top tour to explore the famous coastline, and it guarantees a full day of adventures. Your day starts with an air-conditioned ride to Sorrento, where you’ll have free time to grab breakfast and explore the historical city.
Sorrento is considered the gateway to the Amalfi Coast, but it’s beautiful in its own right and very worth the visit, so take advantage of this stop to check out its port and lovely city center.

From Sorrento you’ll catch a ferry to Positano, sailing past the gorgeous coastline as you take in the views from the water which is, in my opinion, the best way to experience the Amalfi Coast in all its glory.
Before disembarking in Positano, your local guide will give you tips on the best spots to visit, and allow you to explore the picturesque village at your leisure.
Positano is the most Instagrammable town on the Amalfi Coast, and you’ll be spoilt with picture-worthy options at the adorable boutiques, viewpoints adorned with bougainvillea flowers, and its world-renowned beach.

Then it’s time for one of the trip’s highlights: a visit to a beautiful lemon grove overlooking the sea that’s not open to the general public. There, you’ll learn about the famous Sorrentine lemons and the production of local products, including tastings of the beloved limoncello.
The lemon grove is close to Amalfi, so you’ll have free time to wander around the village before hopping on a ferry to Salerno, where you’ll catch the train back to Rome.
➤ What makes this tour stand out? It’s the perfect introduction to the Amalfi Coast, offering plenty of time to explore its most famous town, Positano, as well as a well-deserved visit to Sorrento, which is often overlooked by other tours.
On top of it, you’ll enjoy two very scenic boat rides along the coastline, which in my opinion is the best way to see the Amalfi Coast.
